Nearly half NZ under the Poverty Line.
New Zealand has done well over the last 10years economically. but that economic growth has had little impact on the nearly 50% of all New Zealanders who are on incomes $20,000 or less. Thats 50% of our population under the poverty line. Thats 50% of the voting population. The government needs to think about that, if they are serious about helping those in need. Tax cuts only help those over $20,000 or more. So the government would be better to give tax relief (no tax) to incomes up to $20,000 and tax cuts to those over $20,000. That would be putting relief directly to those who need it most. The tax cuts to the $20,000 and over would need to be structured to help the lower end more, where its needed. They also need to take into account that those on $10,000-$50,000 are the major everyday consumers for New Zealand that still pay GST on everything they buy.
